FAQ
Thyme-Myrtle Balm is a herbal ointment commonly used to relieve cold and respiratory symptoms. The main ingredients of the balm are essential oils from thyme and myrtle, both known for their healing and soothing properties.
Effects of Thyme-Myrtle Balm:
1. Mucolytic and aids breathing:
Thyme oil is known for its mucolytic effect. It helps loosen mucus in the airways, making it easier to cough up and clearing the respiratory passages. This is why the balm is often used for coughs and bronchitis.
2. Antibacterial and antiviral:
Both myrtle and thyme have natural antibacterial and antiviral properties that can help fight pathogens and support the immune system.
3. Anti-inflammatory:
The anti-inflammatory properties of the essential oils help soothe irritated airways and reduce inflammation, which is particularly helpful for colds or sore throats.
4. Gentle on the skin:
The balm is generally gentle on the skin and can be used on babies, children, and adults. It is applied externally to the chest, back, or under the nose to help clear the airways.
Note:
Thyme-Myrtle Balm should be used cautiously with babies and only after a certain age (usually from 6 months). It is always advisable to consult a pediatrician beforehand to ensure that the balm is suitable for the baby.
- For colds: Gently apply to the chest and back to allow the essential oils to be absorbed through the skin and take effect.
- To support breathing: Apply a small amount of the balm under the nose or on the upper body to open the airways and make breathing easier.
- Frequency of use: It is generally recommended to apply the balm 2-3 times a day, especially before bedtime, to ease breathing during the night.
Important Notes:
- Not suitable for infants under 6 months, as essential oils can be too strong for their sensitive airways.
- Avoid contact with the eyes and do not apply to open wounds.
Thyme-Myrtle Balm is a natural and gentle alternative to conventional cold ointments and can help relieve respiratory discomfort.
Thyme-Myrtle Balm can generally be used on babies from 6 months of age. However, it is important to follow the specific recommendations of the manufacturer and your pediatrician, as babies can be sensitive to essential oils.
Before using the balm on babies under 6 months, it is advisable to consult a pediatrician or naturopath. For very young babies, you can also use alternative methods, such as applying the balm to a cloth and hanging it near the sleeping area so the baby can inhale the scent indirectly without the balm being applied directly to the skin.
Thyme - botanically Thymus vulgaris L.
